Vančová, Eliška ; Landová, Tabita (advisor) ; Vaňáč, Martin (referee)
As part of the efforts to protect minorities, the issue of the social status of intimate relationship between two people of the same sex has come to the fore in recent years. This thesis called Attitudes towards same-sex couples in the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren examines how the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren (hereafter ECCB) has approached the issue. In order to gain a deeper understanding of the current starting point, the first part of the thesis discusses views on homosexuality and same-sex relationships throughout history. Then it focuses more closely on developments in the Czech environment, as well as on Christian, and specifically protestant, approaches. The second part of the thesis is devoted to the ECCB documents and debates on the topic. It concentrates on attitudes towards homosexuality and same-sex relationships and, in relation to the issue of same-sex marriage, on the ECCB's approach to marriage. Based on ECCB agendas, it traces the Church's basis for a liturgy of blessing same-sex couples. Personality differences in individuals of various sexual orientations
Fořt, Jakub ; Havlíček, Jan (advisor) ; Procházka, Ivo (referee)
The previous research identified a range of personality differences between men and women of various sexual orientations. Non-heterosexual individuals systematically show higher gender nonconformity and greater openness to experience than heterosexual individuals. Non-heterosexual men also show higher levels of neuroticism compared to heterosexual men. The main aim of this study is to replicate previous findings regarding personality differences. The study further aims to determine whether some of the observed differences in personality factors might be explained by differences in gender nonconformity among individuals of various sexual orientations. Via an online survey, a short version of the Big Five Inventory (BFI-10) and a number of scales measuring gender nonconformity were administered to men (N = 3,418) and women (N = 4,690). In total, 232 individuals identified as asexual, 1,814 as bisexual, 3,024 as heterosexual, 2,468 as homosexual, and 570 as pansexual. Our results demonstrate higher gender nonconformity among non-heterosexual men and women, higher neuroticism among non-heterosexual men, and greater openness to experience among bisexual men and women compared to heterosexual individuals. Asexual women showed lower levels of extraversion than women of other sexual orientations. Gender...
Homosexuality in the Age of Oscar Wilde
KOLÁŘ, Filip
The introductory part of this bachelor 's attempts to outline the historical context of the times that preceded the Victorian era. Homosexuality in ancient Greece and in Czech lands is explored in the first chapter. This chapter also deals with the evolution of definition of sexual scandal in different times. In the following chapter, the attention is paid to an English educational system, which shaped society to a large extent. It highlights the fact that homosexual activities were performed by young students, who were to become a future elite of British society. Three important scholars are also mentioned in this chapter, John A. Symonds, Edward Carpenter, and Havelock Ellis. The last two chapters deal with homosexuality in Victoria England and its empire, with Oscar Wilde trials and places certain elements in context of more liberal France, where Oscar Wilde fled.
"Just Don't Be Yourself" - Discourse of Homosexuality in Czech Protestant Churches
Boszczyk, Filip ; Javornícky Brumovská, Tereza (advisor) ; Knotková - Čapková, Blanka (referee)
While the majority of Czech society now holds relatively positive attitudes toward the homosexual minority, the same cannot be said of religious people. Czech Protestants in particular are a very heterogenous group in this area. This thesis is an excursion into the intersection of these two minorities: religious and sexual. It seeks to answer questions about the nature of the Czech Protestants' approach to the phenomenon of homosexuality, its history and the circumstances that have given it its current form. The main subject of the thesis is therefore the Protestant discourse of homosexuality, the study of which makes it possible to identify the basic ideological differences between religious attitudes of accepting or rejecting homosexuality. Understanding these theological and social assumptions helps to clarify key aspects of the contemporary culture wars in which conservative Christianity plays an important role.
